BEMT Gives U.S. Formulators a New UV Filter. It Does Not Solve the Formula for Them.

Bemotrizinol, also known as BEMT, has opened a formulation option that U.S. sunscreen developers have not had for decades. Its broad UVA and UVB absorption and strong photostability create new possibilities for high-SPF and broad-spectrum systems, but simply adding another UV filter does not automatically produce a better sunscreen.

The difficult work still happens inside the formula. BEMT must be solubilized correctly, kept from crystallizing during storage, positioned intelligently within the overall UV-filter system and balanced against oil-phase loading, emulsion stability, film formation, water resistance and sensory expectations.

This advanced expert-led training focuses on those formulation decisions. Rather than providing another overview of UV filters, the session examines how BEMT changes the high-SPF formulation toolbox and how formulators can use that expanded toolbox without introducing new stability, processing, performance or regulatory problems.

Why You Should Not Miss This Training?

  • Formulate effectively with BEMT

  • Design stronger UV-filter systems

  • Reduce crystallization and instability

  • Improve SPF and UVA balance

  • Build more photostable sunscreen systems

  • Navigate US and EU requirements

The Formulation Problems We Will Actually Address

  • BEMT stays dissolved initially, then crystallizes during stability testing.

  • Higher filter loading improves SPF but makes the formula heavier and harder to stabilize.

  • Avobenzone combinations look promising but photostability remains inconsistent.

  • A technically strong formula develops greasiness, tack or poor rub-in.

  • SPF gains flatten even though more UV filter is being added.

  • The emulsion becomes increasingly fragile as the oil phase grows.

  • Lab-scale stability looks good, but scale-up changes the result.

  • A strong SPF result still leaves inadequate UVA balance or poor water resistance.

Turn the New BEMT Opportunity Into Better High-SPF Formulations

BEMT expands the formulation toolbox, but the real advantage comes from how effectively it is integrated into the complete sunscreen system. Work through the solubility, crystallization, photostability, sensory, testing and regulatory decisions that determine whether a high-SPF sunscreen performs beyond its UV-filter list.
